The 2008 China-US Joint Workshop on Bioenergy Consequences for Global Environmental Change was held October 15-17, 2008 in Beijing, China, and was co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Natural Science Foundation of China.

At the workshop, 26 senior US scientists and national program leaders joined more than 50 Chinese scientists and government officers in discussing the benefits and potential liabilities associated with large-scale bioenergy production. The workshop included five keynote speeches, 20 oral presentations, and 14 poster presentations, in addition to a number of side meetings, tours of research facilities, and field trips. Three US students and more than 20 Chinese students were directly involved in workshop activities.
